NEWS: WIZ KHALIFA ANNOUNCES SUMMER TOUR DATES (VIA MTV)

With his new album, Rolling Papers, moving almost 200,000 units its first week in stores and landing at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, Wiz Khalifa has certified his position as one of hip-hop’s rising stars. Capitalizing on this success, the Pittsburgh rapper is embarking on the Rolling Papers World Tour, and riding shotgun will be G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean. The “Black and Yellow” MC’s tour kicks off at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri, on June 12. Despite its billing as a world tour, Wiz will only be hitting cities in the continental United States, including Las Vegas, New Orleans and Boston, for the 27-date tour before its final stop in Canandaigua, New York, on August 3. Another featured artist on the bill is rapper Chevy Woods. Also a Pittsburgh native, he is a member of Wiz’s Taylor Gang crew. Wiz kept the collaborations on his major-label debut to a minimum, but Chevy managed to appear on “Star of the Show.” Big Sean is a Kanye West disciple and his debut LP, Finally Famous: The Album, recently had its release date pushed back to June 21. Tickets for the tour go on sale to the general public on April 20. The date, an unofficial marijuana holiday known as Weed Day, is appropriate considering Wiz’s love of all things marijuana. Members of the official Taylor Gang Fan Club will have the opportunity to purchase tickets on Thursday, April 14.

Bun B Speaks on J Cole & Wiz Khalifa

Now can I say something…I wish I could pause it-Right when he says “You know J Cole has sold out shows and everyone is singing his records…”
WAIT JUST A MNFN MINUTE! Name places that J Cole has sold out? Headlining????? I’ll Wait…
Truth is, As much as some of the tastemakers and legends such as Bun B ride J Cole’s machine (as they called it on the Summit), I don’t personally feel like he has deserved all the hype. Shit, he doesn’t even look too comfortable with himself in his new video “Who Dat” where he seems to have found a eagerness to show off his pyro mania.
The moral to my madness is…I think my man Bun got his stats wrong. no bull. but he does understand some of the moves that are being made. maybe time he should pay more attention to the people/person making them.

[MTV] Wiz Khalifa’s Kush And Orange Juice Blows up the Internet

Wiz Khalifa is winning right now. Khalifa released his newest mixtape Kush and Orange Juice via his Twitter page on Wednesday (April 14) and the Internet paid attention. Twitter’s list of trending topics included #KushandOrangeJuice and the amount of fans searching for the mixtape also put it on the list of Google trends.

Hype for the mixtape actually started to build Tuesday night on Twitter, when Khalifa tweeted to his fans, “Yo Taylors, #Kushandorangejuice drops tomorrow for ur waken & baken pleasures.” He teased about the mixtape for most of the night and once it was released Wednesday morning, a frenzy followed.

The mixtape’s cover pays homage to David Ruffin’s 1980 Gentleman Ruffin album, and the tape features various samples as well as Khalifa rapping over Loose Ends’ “Hangin’ on a String” on “The Kid Frankie.”

This seems to be another step in the right direction for Wiz Khalifa, whose popularity has skyrocketed since he left his label Warner Bros. in July 2009. He has since released three well-received mixtapes, Burn After Rolling, How High (a collaborative effort with Curren$y) and Kush and Orange Juice, as well as an independent album, Deal or No Deal. He’s also seen his fanbase grow on Twitter and was featured as one of XXL‘s 2010 Freshmen 10. When MTV News caught up Khalifa at the Freshmen 10 photo shoot, he attributed his success to hard work — and his fans.

“Just staying in the studio, always working, always putting out mixtapes, material for people to listen to, capitalizing off of whatever I do. If something does well, you got to keep going after that. You can’t get comfortable after that and think that’s it. So just constantly working and reinventing myself, making smart moves — and having great fans.”
